What is Weight Neutral Care?

Weight neutral care focuses on a person's whole self rather than just their weight. Weight neutral care emphasizes evidenced-based care that can improve quality of life. 

The main reason that I practice weight neutral care is that weight does not determine health. From both scientific evidence and experience, I have found that pursuit of weight loss tends to be more harmful than beneficial. Because of this, I help my clients evaluate their values and encourage them to focus on health in all areas of life rather than weight loss.    

As a part of weight neutral care, I help clients incorporate Intuitive Eating principles as appropriate and as they are interested.   

What if I want to lose weight? 

If you are desiring weight loss, I'd be happy to set up a session with you, but will not provide you with a weight loss plan. Instead, I would work with you on pursuing a plan for good health, including a discussion on the definition of good health.  This is a mental shift for many and it can take time to decide if this is an approach you are willing to attempt.
